Germany woke up on Wednesday morning to the chaos which hurricane-strength winds brought to the country for much of Tuesday, killing seven people and causing major damage to travel infrastructure.
Germany saw a slight increase in road fatalities between 2013 and 2014, but an overall decrease since 2010, according to a European Commission report released on Tuesday.
The number of road accidents caused by wild animals has risen sharply, according to the German Hunting Association. Motorists face a particular threat from wild boars.
