Internationally renowned conductor Kent Nagano stood in front of the 950 amateurs and 50 professionals who took part in the spontaneous performance – which saw the halls and balconies of the shopping centre packed with listeners.
"You were fantastic and your abilities, musicianship, readiness to take part and enthusiasm made the 'Symphonic Mob' a total success," the organizers wrote on their website. "Everyone involved had a huge amount of fun."
The so-called 'Symphonic mob' has been going since 2014, when the German Symphony Orchestra put together the first event at the Foreign Ministry open day in Berlin.
Since then the concerts have continued and in 2016 several other city and regional orchestras have offered similar opportunities to join a spontaneous concert, including in Frankfurt an der Oder, Cologne, Bremen and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Participants can play any instrument - including non-orchestral instruments like guitar or saxophone - or sing, and people with any level of musical experience are welcome.
