Italy confirms high-speed rail links with Germany and Austria 'by 2026'

Italy is going ahead with plans for new high-speed links with Germany and Austria, the national railway operator revealed this week.

The prospect of reducing the travel time from Bolzano / Bozen to Innsbruck to under an hour sounds very exciting! It opens the possibility of commuting to Innsbruck for work while living in Bolzano / Bozen. For me, as both an Italian AND Austrian citizen, that would be a HUGE win!

The first international Frecciarossa was Milan to Paris. It started a few years ago then temporarily suspended due to a tunnel collapse but I think it’s resumed now. Frecciarossa trains also operate in Spain under the iryo brand, a joint venture between Trenitalia and Air Nostrum
