Signal failure hobbles five Berlin S-Bahn lines
Local rail traffic in Berlin was seriously disrupted on Thursday morning after a signal failure hit five lines of the city's S-Bahn network.
The problems at Grünauer Kreuz meant that trains on the S45, S46, S8 and S9 lines were subject to delays and cancellations, BZ Berlin reported.
Coming on top of an already limited service due to summer engineering work, the failure meant extra woes for commuters and for people arriving in the city via Schönefeld airport, whose main public transport link is the S9 line.
Traffic on some stretches of the S1, S2, S8, S41, S42, S45, S46 and S47 has been replaced by buses.
