Three muggers were arrested by Berlin police on Wednesday after an unproductive night of robbery.

The trio had threatened an 18-year-old with a knife on Pankower Allee in the capital's suburb of Reinickendorf at around 3am and taken his wallet and phone.

But they gave the young man his mobile back, as it was too old to be worth anything to the robbers.

Unfortunately for the robbers, the teenager then phoned police after they ran away to report the crime.

A police spokesman contacted by The Local didn't know whether he used the very same phone to make the call.

Police were able to catch the criminals, two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old, close to the scene of the crime.
