With summer holiday season approaching, The Local List this week has scoured the length and breadth of Germany to find some of the most unusual sites for you to visit. How many of our ten have you seen?

Do the Brandenburg Gate and Cologne Cathedral on your trip to Germany by all means, but don't forget to leave the beaten track and check out some of the country's more bizarre landmarks. After all, how else will you get that once in a lifetime snap of a 16-metre porcelain male member?

From the 5,000-year-old geometrical genius of the ancients, to zealous Nazi gardeners to architectural psychedelia and sheer folly, we've come up with a few suggestions for unusual places to visit. Although you may need a light aircraft and a heavy pinch of salt to take in some.
