US consulate staff in Berlin found a package on Friday containing white powder and a threatening letter addressed to president Barack Obama.

According to Berlin newspaper the BZ, three members of consulate staff came into contact with the unidentified powder, and a suspicious liquid.

The fire brigade was called and on Friday morning set up a decontamination tent at the offices, which are in the upmarket Zehlendorf area of the city.

Initial reports suggested that the powder was not harmful, but the police has, the BZ said started looking into who could have sent the package and the threatening letter.
