Kapranos is known for being a gourmand while touring around the world with his band, writing a book a few years ago about what Franz Ferdinand ate between gigs.
He didn't say whether his bandmate Nick McCarthy, who spent part of his childhood in Bavaria, first turned him onto the German asparagus craze.
However, the band's song "Darts of Pleasure" ends with the perfect culinary accompaniment to Spargel, referring to "Schampus mit Lachsfisch, or champagne and salmon.
