With just days to go until the 85th Academy Awards, The Local has combed through Teutonic film history to compile Germany's finest Oscar moments.

While Germany seems to thrive in the Best Foreign Film category, with films such as The Lives of Others and The Tin Drum winning awards, other main awards have delivered a meagre harvest as the coveted gold statues often get snapped up by English-speaking actors.
