Italian rescue services have pulled two bodies out of Lake Garda after three Germans went missing on a sailing trip and were caught up in bad weather.

A spokesman for the coast guard in Salò said he could not yet confirm that the two were from the trio which disappeared on Sunday.

But fears that the dead men could be those who went missing were strengthened by the fact that a half-sunk yacht has also been found.

Speaking of the first body to be found on Monday morning, the coast guard spokesman said, “Documents found on the man indicate that he is one of the Germans.”

Italian news agency Ansa said the three men had set out on a sailing trip early on Sunday morning – and were reported missing on Sunday evening after they failed to return. The men, said to be aged 61, 65 and 71, were from Erlangen in Bavaria according to the Münchner Merkur newspaper.
