Minister slams 'macho' Muslim culture

The Local · 26 Nov 2010, 09:50

Published: 26 Nov 2010 09:50 GMT+01:00

The minister told daily Wiesbadener Kurier that while discrimination and disadvantage were partly to blame, there were also religious and cultural roots to this propensity to violence, which was revealed in two studies commissioned by her ministry due to be released on Friday.

“We must not construct any false taboos here: there is a macho culture among young Muslim men that glorifies violence and which also has cultural roots,” she said. “The tendency towards violence among young, male Muslims is clearly higher than among non-Muslim, native youths,” she said.

It stemmed from perceived slights upon their honour, which they defended with violence, Schröder said.

“Social disadvantage and discrimination are important factors, but they are not sufficient as an explanation,” she said. “There is a co-dependence between religiousness, macho norms and tendency towards violence.”

Her comments came amid an ongoing debate about immigration, integration and Islam in Germany. Former central banker Thilo Sarrazin kick-started the issue with the publication of his book, “Abolishing Germany - How we’re putting our country at jeopardy,” which argued partly that Muslim immigration was dragging Germany down.

Chancellor Angela Merkel later declared that multiculturalism had “failed utterly,” while Bavarian Premier Horst Seehofer went so far as to suggest immigration from Muslim countries should be stopped.

Schröder indicated that discussion of the issue had been hampered by political correctness. Religion was part of culture and culture shaped behaviour, she said.

“If someone made an issue of the disproportionate tendency to violence among young Muslims, it was always said that this was a blanket judgement. But that’s not the case,” she said.

It was also striking that there was a growing hostility towards Germans being reported, she said.

“German children are not infrequently bullied in schools just because they are German. We must put up with that no longer,” she said.

Story continues below…

Schröder called for stronger efforts for the education of Islamic religious leaders in German universities – something the federal governments has already embarked on by creating university courses for Imams.

“We have to make those who shape values in the Muslim community responsible. That is first of all the Imams,” she said. “Then another picture of society, of the roles of men and women and of violence, would soon be communicated in the mosques.”

I suspect the best weapon to use against the Muslims in Germany....is to bring younger Muslim boys (age 10-13) to a "wussy-status". Toss in a daily dose...and maybe after five years....you've got a different trend brewing.

Well .. i guess they should wear skirts and cry to their mothers anytime someone steps on their toes .... i guess Germany doesn't need "MEN" anymore ... they are looking for a bunch of sissies in order to be "WELL INTEGRATED" .....!!!!!!!!

Politicians should go in prison for spreading of discrimination on the basis of religion, it is racism, by the law. Let's ask feminist organization if Germans are really so nice or they beat women?

A more accurate statement might be

'macho culture among all young men that glorifies violence and which also has cultural roots'

Disgusting, implicitly racist comments by this extreme right wing German Minister.

Anti-semitism is the verbal or physical damage to Semites for being ethnically or culturally Semitic per se and comes in 2 equally repugnant versions, anti-Arab anti-Semitism, including Islamophobia (300 million ethnically and culturally Semitic Arabs and 1,500 culturally Semitic Muslims) and anti-Jewish anti-Semitism (15 million mainly culturally Semitic Jews).

Germany has had an horrendous history of anti-Jewish anti-Semitism (notably 5-6 million Jews killed in the WW2 Jewish Holocaust, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation) but under right-wing US lackeys such as Merkel is involved in the horrendously violent anti-Arab anti-Semitism of the Zionist-backed US War on Terror (post-invasion violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation now total 2.5 million for Occupied Iraq and 4.9 million for Occupied Afghanistan) (see Iraqi Holocaust, Iraqi Genocide and Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide).

Post-1945 Germans rejected anti-Jewish anti-Semitism but now in the 21st century the German Government is disgracefully backing the deadly anti-Arab anti-Semitism and Islamophobia of violent, genocidal and racist Zionist (RZ)-beholden neoconservative US.

Decent Germans must oppose the new and violent anti-Semitism of right wing German "democratic fascism".

@DrGideonPolya.. Actually The Muslims were on Germany's side durring WW2. Grand Mufti al-husani once complained to Hitler that he wasn't killing Jews fast enough. Jews never bullied Germans, Jews never insisted that Germany change to meet their needs, Jews were totally integrated into German culture and society. They contributed greatly to German culture and scientific knowledge. Muslims have not done this but have demanded that Germany change to accommodate them. BIGGGGGG difference.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to observe that young men growing up in a culture where they have an obligation to kill their daughters or sisters if they perceive she has "dishonored" the family in some way. While this is not true in all of Islam, it is certainly true in many areas, and represents the extreme of the religion.

Even within other cultures the issue of "honor" and "disrespect" are excessive. Unfortunately not all societies/religions/families teach their children to deal respectfully with such perceptions. Over-reaction is the tool used by those too insecure to understand relationships.

While it may be uncomfortable to discuss such things, and there are obviously errors in making generalizations, those factors don't change the underlying truth of the studies.

Golda Meir observed that "there will only be peace when they love their children more than they hate us." That's true on a national level, and equally true on a person to person level.

I agree. It is a major problem in Muslim culture. I remember living in Germany and going out there. Muslims, not drinking, just at the club in packs of 9-10 guys just looking for problems. My friends told me, just don't make eye contact with them or they'll want to fight for disrespecting them.

"[The violence from the young Muslim men] stemmed from perceived slights upon their honour, which they defended with violence, Schröder said."

We have the same problem in the U.S. with young black and hispanic males. Just build more jails and let the macho guys rot in them. There is nothing else you can do.

Muslim cultural values, nice oxymoron, are known in Germany and Europe latest since the first wave of "Gastarbeiter" from Turkey rolled in, re honour killings. Most of the killers received manslaughter sentences for the murder they had committed on the grounds of their "cultural background". Now the hypocrisy of politicians applies, bemoaning such cultural values - may I ask who is permitting the immigration from Muslim countries into Germany and Europe in general? How many have arrived today, as we speak? I have never heard a plausible argument able to convince anyone on any grounds. If there is anyone out there, please state one convincing argument that speaks pro immigration from Muslim countries into western countries.

I strongly believe you will not get an answer any time soon by any politician. Frau Schroeder gained media exposure pointing to the effects - I believe she would not dare to address the cause of the problem.

So immigrant Islamic children are bullying German kids. Well, no shock there: a trend that exists everywhere that Islam and Muslims do. But how is "making the Imams responsible" going to change anything? It's a cert that the Islamic kids learn just as much hate for non-muslims from their families and community as directly in-mosque. Are the families going to be regulated also? The Bavarian minister's solution is a far better one, and more fair across the board.

A terrorist attack by an Islamic group on German soil will render all these discussions of intergration mute.
14:55 November 28, 2010 by Stuart1977
Ever since Serrazin's book German politicians seem to have gained the courage to badmouth Muslims, it's as if they've thought to themselves 'It's safe to rubbish them now someone else has started the trend' obviously they were too gutless to do so themselves, like the bullies they are.

tallady - it's moot, not mute.

ajs42548 - more Muslims fought on the Allied side, get a history book.
18:09 November 28, 2010 by SIXGUNWEST
The problem with Muslims is that they come with an instruction manual that tells them it is OK to lie to get what they want, not to make Christians their friends (I am in full mutual agreement with that!), terrorize non-believers and they are told they are superior to everyone else in the world.

Lets, see, they did not build Mercedes Benz cars, invent the light bulb, put a man on the moon, or build the first pure jet airplane. They are not superior and have absolutely nothing to offer the west but be a massive drain on the rest of society demanding this right and that. I say "return to sender".

A comment above was right, Muslims should adapt to German culture, learn the language, play by the rules and not make their own. But, at a time with high unemployment there should be NO immigration.

The foolish fox invites scorpions in out of the rain to share its den and then marvels that they sting it. It is their NATURE stupid fox!

You and your kits will die in your den and the scorpions will feed on your corpses while looking for more naive foxes.

But no worry, they abound in today's world!

It is the 3rd Jihad and Allah has blinded the infidels to it. It may be openly proclaimed and still the do not perceive!

How many instances of NON-Muslim men killing their sister for "inappropriate" behaviour are there? Oh course they are a problem. Deport them all.
22:44 November 28, 2010 by anangryman.com
When are these governments going to realize that you can't deal with someone bent upon your elimination. Don't appease these people, first preform ethnic cleansing via deportation, second stop all immigration into your country, and third learn from mistakes already made and don't ever repeat them again.
09:27 November 29, 2010 by Skip Gainer
Look you are not going to change the young Islamic men think and do. Why should they change in the first place. They have you Europeans scared to death of the Islamic terroist through their so called religion with sharia law. A law started by a babbling idiot to enslave certain people, including their own mothers and sisters to rule over them, even having the right to kill their mothers and sisters If you read their holy book the quran you would see how they teach their children how to hate and kill us infidels and Jews from first grade all the while they are growing up!~

Just take a look at how some Muslims behave in Sweden.

After WW2, liberal Sweden took in Jews who survived the Holocaust as a humanitarian act, it also took in new waves of refugees from tyranny and conflicts in the Middle East.

A country that opened it's doors to them and looked after the new arrivals, providing housing, education, health-care, social security etc etc. How do they re-pay..?? They commit violent robberies, rape, riot, set traps for ambulance and fire crews and the police.

That's thanks for you.

Kristina Shroder said that "discrimination and disadvantage were partly to blame" for Islamic violence but neglected to point out that Muslims violence is the reason employers discriminate. No one wants to become hostage to a violent employee. She says that disadvantage is partly to blame but who is to blame for Muslims choosing welfare over working for the infidel and becoming disadvantaged as a result?
