The authorities told The Local they seized the illegal arsenal after entering an apartment on Skalitzer Straße around 9 am Sunday morning following an investigation into weapons offences.

The raid turned up a total of 54 handguns, 10 rifles, a Kalashnikov-style assault rifle with silencer, a pump-action shotgun, a sawed-off shotgun, a semi-automatic machine gun, nine one-shot "pen" guns, as well as five smoke grenades and assorted calibres of ammunition.

The 48-year old owner of the flat was arrested and was due to be taken before a judge on Monday as police continue their investigation.

I love how the article doesn't say any motive or anything. They need more information in the article.
20:42 October 19, 2010 by LancashireLad
Bet they'd have said if the guy was muslim.
21:57 October 19, 2010 by radagast
second to LacashireLad, PLUS may be they'd like to add two more sentences .

"sources said Police are investigating whether this discovery is linked to recent al-qaida threat in Europe. Also critics says rather integrating into the German values muslim immigrants are taking the guns instead of initiating talks."
23:47 October 19, 2010 by maxbrando
The guy IS a muslim. The authorities just don't want to say it.
00:43 October 20, 2010 by Stenzel

08:46 October 20, 2010 by storymann

"a semi-automatic machine gun". I love terms like this, almost as accurate as a "trommelrevolver". Did they mean they found a self loading rifle that resembles an assault rifle or what? Oh that was covered with the "a Kalashnikov-style assault rifle with silencer" one, or wasn't it :-p?
09:40 October 20, 2010 by Legal E
Ah, he had a rat investation and needed them for the Rats and Pigeons. The assualt rifle was to help his neighbours with their pigeon problem as well.

If it is a muslim then he misunderstands Islam because it is a religion of peace and love.
10:23 October 20, 2010 by lordkorner
For all ye pseudo sleuths, its a well know fact that Kruezberg is home to many Irish and there is at least one Irish Pub in the area, so hey, maybe he's not Muslim after all.
12:24 October 20, 2010 by tallady
Possible lordkoner he or she could be IRA
13:54 October 20, 2010 by NYsteve

"as well as five smoke grenades"

NO, no not smoke grenades, FIVE of them? Geez!!

"a Kalashnikov-style assault rifle with silencer"

Kalashnikov-style as in the magazine was curved, it is in the picturem, that aint a Kalashnikov! But I'm surprised none of the weapons are displayed to appear safe, magazines attached, slides forward etc Very sloppy these German police.
15:30 October 20, 2010 by lordkorner
Wow look at the photo, most of the guns are pointed at the photographer, very sloppy these German photographers.

Well, this guy man not be a muslim terrorist wannabe, but the lack of info does lead one to suspect that is the case. It's like in the USA when they don't mentioned the race, you can pretty much guarantee that the culprit is Black or Hispanic.

@beastman I keep hearing that Islam is a religion of love and peace, but every action by the followers since I've been a child has shown otherwise. Jesus' message was one of love, peace and non-violence. Unfortunately, all historical evidence and written words, show that Islam is not about peace or love.
09:18 October 21, 2010 by lordkorner
"Jesus message was about love and non-violence" funny how the Crusaders and Clergy of the Spanish inquisition never got to that part of the script.
09:31 October 21, 2010 by storymann
"love and peace" are words for the soft hearted..Religion give most people the the pseudo authority to Hate,Steal,Malign and Molest THE FAITHFUL...

@Lothar. Good points. Couldn't have said it better.

How do you get that box with the quote in your post?
01:08 October 22, 2010 by crm114
@Lothar - ditto.

The only flaw in the argument is that whatever faith you subscribe to your only fooling yourself, you know there's no-one there, so stop worrying and enjoy life - before you become worm food !

Based on the paucity of facts in this article, the comments on this thread could compete in an Olympic conclusion-jumping competition. Maybe the guy's just another run-of-the-mill German mafioso. There are so many guns floating around Berlin from the demise of the East and the flight of the Soviets that any of us could get one on the street in 15 minutes. Why not wait for more facts to emerge before jumping on the xenophobic bandwagon? There are plenty of Germans who are no good criminal bastards.
