As of Friday internet users in Germany have more options available for registering their own .de domain names.

Manager of the .de country-code top-level domain for the country, DENIC, announced that the new options would be available as of 9 am, when customers can register new website addresses with their internet providers.

The first person to register a domain name generally receives it, unless there is a copyright dispute.

According to the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM), even one or two character website names – for example vw.de – will now be allowed. Domain names that consist of only numbers, such as 123.de, will also be an option.
