German engineering giant Siemens said Friday it has won one of its biggest ever renewable energy contracts, worth more than €2 billion ($2.5 billion) for wind turbines for a Danish firm.

"The agreement with Dong Energy is one of the biggest orders in the history of Siemens," head of Siemens' renewable energy division Rene Umlauft said in a statement.

Siemens will to deliver up to 500 offshore turbines from 2011 to the Danish power company, a spokeswoman said.

The exact amount of the contract was withheld by mutual consent, she added. Total capacity of the turbines would reach 1,800 MW , the statement said.
