Police on Thursday said a man attempted to kidnap a teenage girl in Leipzig close to where another girl was murdered last August.

The 13-year-old girl was in the district of Stötteritz on January 4 when a man addressed her and then forced her into the passenger seat of his car. But after managing to escape, she alerted the police.

The authorities are still searching for the killer of the 8-year-old Michelle, who was murdered in the same area in August 2008. Leipzig authorities said the special murder commission on Michelle has been informed of the incident.

Last summer, young Michelle did not return from playing and her body was found three days later in a park pond in Stötteritz. Police still have no leads in the attempt to track down her murderer.
