Pirates free German freighter after 41 days

A German freighter that was ambushed by pirates in late May off the coast of Somalia has been freed after 41 days.

The 15-member crew on the “Lehmann Timber” are all safe, a spokesman for the Karl Lehmann shipping company said Wednesday.

The 120-metre ship is on its way to a safe harbour, where the crew will receive medical care.

The Lübeck-based shipping company has declined to offer more information regarding the release of their ship, saying it could endanger their other ships and crew.
