Most of Germany reported that disappointed Euro 2008 fans went home peacefully on Sunday night after their team's defeat, but there was violence in Hamm, where several people were injured in a knifing incident.

An argument in a Hamm bar turned into a brawl when a man threw a heavy ashtray at another patron, causing severe injury, police in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia said on Monday.

Then a 26-year-old guest pulled a pocket knife, stabbing two other guests.

Another patron tried to attack police as they arrived, but was subdued with pepper spray, police reported.
