At about 8.30pm on Sunday night, a 16-year-old approached a 42-year-old man in Berlin, asking him for a cigarette.

When he said "no," the teenager poured an acidic liquid over his head and onto his face.

The girl then darted away from the man, but he chased her and was able to catch her before calling police.

Both were taken to hospital as some of the liquid also splashed onto the girl's leg.

Story continues below…

What exact liquid the girl poured on the man, a police spokesman could not say, according to Berliner Morgenpost, other than it was something "acid-like".
