There's no getting away from the fact that the other Alpine countries - Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy - have higher mountains and longer seasons than Germany

But the Bundesrepublik still has much to offer anyone who loves nothing better than a beautiful white piste.

If you are just looking for a weekend or even a day’s skiing away, German resorts provide the perfect blend of accessibility and cost, especially for those who live in the south of the country.

But these resorts have so much more to offer, making a longer stay well worth the investment.

On our list we have a resort in the remote reaches of eastern Bavaria, a stone’s throw from the Czech Republic. There are the enormous pistes of the beautiful Allgäu region.

There are lively resorts that are as much about the night life as the skiing, but we also suggest more quaint experiences which will provide a flavour of life in small Alpine villages.

The Alps are one of the most beautiful things Germany has to offer, so make sure you make the most of it!
