Online retail giant Amazon said on Monday that it would bring thousands of new jobs to Germany by the end of the year as part of its European expansion.

The company said in a statement that it was searching for employees with varied qualifications and experience levels “from engineers to software developers, from professional newcomers to trainees.”

Many of the new jobs will be in newly announced logistics centres, dotted throughout the country, as well as in Amazon offices and development centres.

The new jobs are part of a larger Europe-wide expansion that in total will create 15,000 positions in branches like Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Web Services, and Kindle Direct Publishing, for example. The company said this will be a new record of recruitment for Amazon to achieve within a year.

“With innovative new services like Prime Now delivery within an hour, the speech recognition of [digital assistant] Alexa, or cloud solutions for business partners, Amazon is offering exciting new jobs for people with different qualifications and career experience,” said Amazon Germany’s country manager, Ralf Kleber, in a statement.

“Examples include logistics experts, linguists, and software developers.”

Many of the latest positions advertised, for example in Munich or Berlin, are written in English and list strong German and English skills as preferred qualifications. Others - such as one listing for a graphic designer, also written in English - do not mention language preferences.
