Bavaria's weirdest and wackiest mythical creature, the Wolpertinger
The Wolpertinger is a mythical creature from the Alpine forests of Bavaria which is usually part mammal, part deer and part bird. Taxidermists have been creating these hybrid creatures for 200 years with some weird, wacky, disturbing and downright hilarious results.
A Wolpertinger, created based on a painting of a young march hare by Albrecht Dürer (1502). Believe it or not, this is one of the more sensible, traditional depictions of a Wolpertinger: with the body of a hare, the horns of a deer, the wings of a duck and fangs. It only gets weirder from here.
