On October 25th, Düsseldorf will be opening its first Instagram museum.

At the museum, visitors can hunt for the best motif for their accounts in a total of 25 snazzy settings - and in a variety of outfits, as changing rooms will abound.

"We want to get people out of their everyday lives and into a dream world," co-founder Mike Naseband told RP Online.

Called “The Cali Dreams Museum,” the creative collection was inspired by the two founders and friends' trip to California only five months ago.

In the so-called Golden State, Nesband along with co-founder Kevin Kock watched people posing for photos on every street corner. Their own quest for the perfect Instagram-able image was born.

When they returned, the two friends and entrepreneurs worked with an investor to rent a 1500 square metre space in the Lierenfeld district of Düsseldorf.

25 selfie sets

They created 25 sets, ranging from a Californian beach to San Francisco’s Chinatown to a pink petrol station with a parked Cadillac. Numerous props are laid out to make the scenery even more authentic.

Their motto: the more creative and colourful, the better.

The €29 price of admission even includes selfie sticks and power banks which can be distributed if a smartphone reaches its limits.

And just as Instagram influencers change their photo fetishes frequently, the sets of museum will also change season to season.

While the fun is not necessarily cheap, the the instagrammers would be offered enough spectacular motifs to fill their accounts with pictures for weeks, Naseband told RP Online.

Continuing the trend

The idea for an Instagram museum in the German speaking world isn’t new: earlier in October, Vienna also opened its first Instagram museum.

The space, however, is a third of the size of Düsseldorf’s new museum, offering vistors 500 square metres worth of  “selfie sets”.

Inspired by similar Instagram-able pop-up museums in the US, a ‘Sugarcandy’ pop-up museum in Cologne also offers visitors a variety of photographic sets, but will be shutting its doors in November.
