Jet breaking sound barrier worries residents of Nuremberg
On Thursday afternoon residents of Nuremberg were left worried when they heard two loud bangs which were so forceful that they shook window panes in the Bavarian city.
According to nordbayern.de, residents ran to the balconies after hearing the two loud bangs shortly before 5pm. Many were unsure whether the noise was an explosion.
The sound was reportedly so loud that it could be heard outside the city.
Police have not reported any damage due to the bangs. They have also attributed the bangs to a jet aircraft which broke the speed of sound. According to police, when a jet breaks the speed of sound it causes two loud bangs.
What type of plane caused the sounds has not been explained. Nor has the question of why an aircraft broke the speed of sound over a built-up residential area.
