When a police patrol in Munich's Sendlinger Tor area noticed a crowd gathered outside a pharmacy window they went to investigate. But the onlookers weren't interested in a new line of flu medicine.

The volunteer officers noticed the crowd on Wednesday night gawping into the display window of the pharmacy and taking pictures of something going on inside, the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) reports.

When they arrived at the scene, they saw that the three display monitors, which normally advertise medications on sale inside, were all displaying a pornographic movie.

But the movie does not appear to have been an attempt by the pharmacy to advertise its latest little blue pill.

The SZ reports that the owner of the pharmacy hit the roof when police woke her in the middle of the night to tell her about the free show taking place in her window.

The screens were shut down at around 1.30 am, but by this time the films had already been running for an hour and a half.

Police believe that a hacker managed to access the pharmacy's internet connection and was able to change the content of its monitors. They are now investigating an as yet unknown person for displaying sexually explicit material in public.

On Thursday staff at the pharmacy were still in a fluster at the news and were refusing to take orders, the SZ reports.
