A butcher in Baden-Württemburg is cheesed off after thieves apparently made off with a 30-kilogramme delivery of cheese valued at €280, police said on Thursday.

There is no trace of the cheese or the thief, said Tuttingen police spokesman Dieter Popp of the burglary that happened early Wednesday morning. The butcher expected his regular cheese delivery to be on his door step at 5.00 a.m. He called police when he realised it was missing.

"Thirty kilogrammes of cheese is definitely too much cheese to be consumed by one person," Popp told The Local, adding that there is a good chance that there is more than one perpetrator.

The pallet was a variety of cheeses. Some were meant to be ingredients for the butcher's self-made sausages, others to be sold or put into sandwiches.

Popp also said that it may have been planned, as the cheese delivery in question is made regularly to the butcher on Mühlstrasse in the town of Schwennigen. "It could be that the cheese thieves knew about this and planned it."

Police are asking if anyone knows anything - or received any invitations to a suspiciously large fondue party - to call into their tip line at 07220-85000.
