The young Germans beat Portugal 1:0 in the final with a goal from Hertha Berlin’s Hany Mukhtar in the 39th minute.

They follow in the footsteps of Germany’s World Cup winning senior side, many of whom played in the side which won the U21 European Championships in 2009 and went on to represent the senior squad.

Germany also won the U19 tournament in 2008.

"We're unbelievable happy," said coach Marcus Sorg after the victory. "The boys earned this title and it will stay with them forever."

Senior team coach Joachim Löw offered his congratulations. “I’m very happy for Marcus Sorg and the boys. The team had a great tournament, and the European Championships showed that German football can look forward to great new talent."
