Prisoner Reinhard Rühs, 51, is suspected of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl whilst out on day parole from Lingen prison, in North Rhine-Westphalia, on Friday May 30th.

Rühs, who was serving time for manslaughter, rape and grievous bodily harm, was granted time out of prison as part of therapy treatment. But he failed to return to the prison on May 30th.

On Tuesday morning prosecutors in Osnabrück said in a statement Rühs was arrested just before 1am in Emmerich, North Rhine-Westphalia, near the Dutch border. “The arrest was preceded by a time-consuming and very labor-intensive investigation,” they said.
