Merkel was on the way from Brandenburg to Berlin when a car hit the limousine on Autobahn 10 near the exit for Berlin-Weissensee, police said on Monday, confirming a report on Spiegel Online.

There was a small amount of damage to both vehicles. The car which hit Merkel’s vehicle was driven by an 82-year-old man and grazed the side of the limousine as it moved into the left lane.

Both cars stopped and Merkel was moved into an accompanying vehicle to continue the rest of her journey.

The chancellor was on her way from her weekend home in Uckermark, Brandenburg, to the capital where she unveiled members of her new cabinet on Sunday afternoon.
