Germany's news this week may have centred on the announcement of a coalition deal, but as Christmas preparations continue, The Local's pictures of the week span rock music to performing policemen.

Monday saw the official opening of the country's world-famous Christmas markets, with cities and towns around Germany filling their squares with warmly-lit huts and glühwein stalls.

The following morning brought more sobering news as a blaze ripped through an historic Renaissance palace in Thuringia, injuring two fire fighters and causing millions of euros' worth of damage.

A Wednesday press conference in Berlin told the world SPD and Union leaders had come to a deal on coalition terms.

And our round-up also includes shots featuring the Berlin police motorcycle display team and the acoustic debut of classic German rockers The Scorpions.
