The Uefa draw in Monaco on Thursday night pitted champions Bayern Munich against Manchester City, CSKA Moscow and Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the first group stage.

Borussia Dortmund, who lost to Bayern Munich in last year's final, will face Arsenal, Olympique de Marseilles and Napoli.

Schalke, meanwhile, have to overcome Chelsea, Basel, and Steaua Bucuresti. Bayer Leverkusen have the toughest draw of the German clubs, facing Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Sociedad.

The first ties will be played on September 17th and 18th.

On Thursday night Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery was awarded the 2012/13 Uefa European Player of the Year for his key role in the club's treble winning season. They won the Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup.
