Being happy is important for everyone. For some it's a ray of sunshine falling on the petals of a spring flower, for others it's a fancy yacht. For this week's The Local list we looked at a recent survey of what puts a smile on German faces.

The power to manage their schedules while fitting in hobbies, love and laughter are all important for Germans, according to pollsters Forsa, who asked more than 2,000 14-69 year-olds whether different things made them happy.

And while that study examined specific happiness factors, another suggested that what made most people happy was the ability to be able to live in the here and now, shortly followed by fulfilling one's potential, Handelsblatt financial newspaper said.

So as spring puts a bright light on many things, why not take a look at our eight happiness factors and have a think about what makes you content?
