Snow and ice in Bavaria caused a motorway huge pile-up overnight, leaving 10 people injured and traffic jams for those travelling towards Munich on the A94.

Behind the crash was a small truck which, when coming down the slip road from Markt Schwaben on the autobahn, skidded on ice and hit a crash barrier before knocking into two other cars.

Around 20 vehicles then bumped into each other behind the crash site, leaving just 10 people lightly injured but causing estimated damages of €100,000.

The motorway was shut for just under two hours in the direction of Bavarian capital Munich, while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

As wintry weather moved across the state, police reported several accidents through the evening.
