Hans Joachim T. also appeared in large sunglasses and a small hat at the court in the western town of Saarbrücken, the Bild newspaper reported on Friday. The judge asked him to take these off, but allowed him to keep the beard and wig on throughout proceedings.
“The judge apparently saw no reason to ask him to remove these things,” court spokesman Jochen Krüger said afterwards.
The defendant is thought to have made 298 videos of his co-workers, while a court-appointed technician testified that 49,000 child porn images were found on his computer.
“I admit both things,” Hans Joachim T. told the court.
“I have been diagnosed with a personality disorder,” the chimney sweep added. “Someone inside me has other interests than the adult part of me. It was compulsive behaviour.”
Some of his seven victims were in tears as they testified in court, the paper reported. “It was awful to see such pictures of myself,” one 24-year-old woman said. “When I found out, I felt complete horror and hate,” said her 34-year-old colleague.
The defendant said he regretted his actions. The trial is set to continue in November.
