Many brave Elbe for New Year's swim
Some 116 brave souls headed for the Elbe River on Sunday morning for the 14th annual Dresden New Year's swim.
The hearty participants faced pouring rain as they made their way to the muddy waters of the river that runs through the capital of Saxony.
Two routes were made available to the participants, both of which went by historic sites such as the Frauenkirche.
Organizers asked participants to come in costume and many obliged.
Those who feel inspired can head to Bavaria for the Danube New Year's swim on January 28.
This one, which takes place in Neuberg an der Donau, has a somewhat longer tradition. It will be the 43rd time swimmers will brave the legendary river for a New Year's dip.
