Farm girls calendar shows pick of the crop
The pick of the crop of Germany’s young women farmers have stripped down to their underwear for a calendar to show that working the land does not necessarily require – or result in - hairy arms and red necks.
The 2012 Deutsche Bauernkalendar features young women from farms around the country in scanty attire while aping rustic-themed paintings of old master artists such as van Gogh, Holder, Anker and Degas. All the women are actual farmers and range from 17 to their mid-20s.
“The calendar shows the modernizing agriculture sector,” Mike Helmy, the calendar’s publisher at Magic Fox Media in Switzerland told The Local. “These women are very proud of their work.”
Nearly 300 women applied to model in the German version of the calendar, which is now in its second version and has sister calendars in Switzerland and Austria. It follows a tradition of erotic farmer girls’ calendars which has become increasingly ubiquitous over the last few years, with even a purely Bavarian edition.
The weeding-out process was rigorous, with multiple casting sessions in Hamburg and Munich.
Although looks mattered, they weren’t the decisive factor in deciding which models to select, said Nathalie Rehak of Magic Fox Media.
“The decisive factor is charisma,” she said, adding that the perfect dimensions were not necessary.
“After all, our candidates sometimes need to carry a pig or a calf. For a person weighing only 50 kilos, that’s not an easy thing to do” Rehak said.
