A 46-year-old Bavarian man was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison after being convicted of having sex with his two daughters over a period of years.

The man, from the Günzburg district in Swabian region of Bavaria, was accused of repeatedly having sex with his now 21- and 24-year-old daughters. He fathered two children by the 24-year-old, who also suffered a miscarriage.

The case only came to light last year when the 21-year-old worked up to courage to report the crime. The older daughter claimed in court hat she had consensual sex with her father.

Throughout the case other family members had been defiant, accusing the younger daughter of making up stories. The father did admit to having sex with the older daughter but admitted Thursday to molesting the younger daughter only after the testimony of a witness.

“I'm very sorry about what happened,” he said.

In court, the father was described as a “king” of the household, who emotionally brutalized family members and practically forced his wife into submission.

“She did everything that her husband told her to,” said Judge Brigitte Grenzstein in entering her ruling. “What he said became law.”

Grenzstein also emphasized that the younger daughter had been telling the truth the entire time despite coming under intense pressure from other family members who refused to believe her.

“She is not a liar,” the judge said.

The conviction comes amid reports about another alleged case of abuse in Bavaria. In Willmersbach, about 40 kilometres outside of Nuremberg, a man has been accused of fathering three children with his now-46-year-old daughter.
