Robben defiant after attack on Müller
Bayern FC winger Arjen Robben was defiant on Sunday about his physical attack on teammate Thomas Müller during the team’s 3:1 win over Bremen.
Robben grabbed Müller by the throat during an angry altercation in the second half of the match on Saturday night. He was furious that Müller had made a derisive hand gesture towards him after Robben fired a wild shot that soared well over the goal.
“You shouldn’t gesticulate with your hand. I hate that,'' Robben said. ''It is disrespectful towards your colleagues. We are role models to the many people in the stadium.”
Fellow Bayern players Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Mario Gomez were forced to intervene.
Bayern are in third place on the Bundesliga table after Saturday's 3-1 win, but still lag 14 points behind leaders Dortmund with 14 games left to play.
Robben, who has scored three goals in the past four games, also annoyed other teammates during the match with his stubborn play during counter-attacks, daily Bild reported.
Speaking after training on Sunday, Müller said he had put the issue behind him. “For me the matter is settled,” he told Bild.
