“That’s right, we’re expecting our first child in July,” the 33-year-old conservative Christian Democrat (CDU) told daily Bild. “We are very happy and grateful, and hope that all goes well.”

It will be her first child.

Schröder has been married to parliamentary liaison to the Interior Ministry Ole Schröder for about one year. The 39-year-old has been a member of the German parliament for the CDU since 2002.

His wife told Bild she was convinced the couple could handle both family life and their ambitious political careers.

“We’ll stand before the same challenges as many other couples in Germany who both have challenging jobs. But we are convinced that with the help of our families we’ll manage.”
