Islamist groups raided in three German cities

The searches targeted homes and religious schools linked to Salafist jihadist group Invitation to Paradise (EZP) in the northwestern cities of Braunschweig and Mönchengladbach, and the Islamic Cultural Center Bremen (IKZB) in northern German port.

"The EZP and the IKZB are accused of opposing the constitutional order with the aim of replacing it in Germany with an Islamic religious state," the ministry said in a statement.

The raids were part of a long-running investigation against the groups and had no link to warnings of potential impending terrorist attacks issued last month by Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière, it added.

The groups reject parliamentary democracy and believe that Islamic law should replace the constitution, the ministry said.

"In a well-fortified democracy it is advisable and necessary not to wait for jihad in the form of an armed struggle before taking action against anti-constitutional groups," the ministry said.

The raids will show whether or not government suspicions about the groups can be confirmed, it added.

A security official told news agency the Associated Press that officials had searched dozens of private homes, religious schools, a small publisher, and a store owned by EZP that sells traditional caftans and veils.

Meanwhile an EZP leader in Mönchengladbach condemned the raid, the news agency said.

"We're sad about this raid, we haven't done anything illegal," Sven Lau said.

But the leader of the anti-Salafist initiative “Citizens for Mönchengladbach” told AP his group welcomed the searches.

Story continues below…

"We are happy that the Interior Ministry moved so fast against them and hope that it won't take much longer until the group will be banned altogether," Wilfried Schultz said.

Residents in Mönchengladbach have held frequent protests against attempts to build a religious school there by the Salafist group, whose strict Islamist ideology has been linked to several terrorist plots.

Their message has been particularly appealing to young Muslim immigrants and converts, the news agency reported.

I suppose we should now brace ourselves for some random urban terrorist acts in the name of Allah.

''German authorities on Tuesday mounted raids against two Islamist groups suspected of seeking to overthrow the government and establish a religious state''

Yeah... bunch of retards are going to change Germany into an "Islamic country''

Find another excuse for fvck sake
18:48 December 14, 2010 by marimay
What will they make up next?

This is quickly becoming a very sad country.

.... not the first time!

19:09 December 14, 2010 by MonkeyMania
So what did these raids turn up?

Let me guess. A couple of head towels and some beard trimmers.

Give us all a break. Overthrow the Deutsche Grundgesetz and replace it with islamic law. Surely there is something more concrete to go on to justify these raids. Sensationalist "The Local" journalism yet again.

...Islamist groups suspected of seeking to overthrow the German government...

But this article sounds like a complete load of Rubbish.

Is this really what Germany is coming to?

Another USA?

This is beyond Bizarre
21:41 December 14, 2010 by marimay
Another USA?

Being someone who travels back and forth from both countries, I would have to say Germany has always been far worse...

Good work Polezi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no place in Germany for terrorists. Run the vans right over to Hamburg's docks and ship them home.

Thank you Polizei.Deport them and good riddance.

Last time around it was a different people and religion (they are neighbours and both have big noses) that was accused of trying to overthrow the state. Lets see where it ends this time!

"We haven't done anything illegal"....

You always hear this from people and Middle Eastern terror groups that get busted.... They say it because our Western governments have allowed the laws to be so lax, Insurgents and terrorists living in the West feel free to plan to blow something up while living amongst us and think they have not broken any laws.

And then when they do blow something up, we are all surprised they were not found out early on to avoid it.

Kudos to the German police for busting up these morons early on and not let it get worse.

You can't expel an idea.
12:47 December 15, 2010 by xx.weirich.xx
Good job government. Send them back where they came from and let them blow up themselves. It's not wanted in the rest of the world.

I'm guessing there are a lot of brainwashed military people on this site. lol

You haven't been here long, have you marimay? Your assumption, sadly, is correct.
13:57 December 15, 2010 by freedom1776
The German Police are quite correct to investigate and raid. It is a good bet that they have prevented more murder bombers. These particular Terrorists have clearly stated their intentions. Like an Anaconda Snake hides below the water and waits to strike; when the victim(s) are helpless and thus doomed to die. Better the German Police pre-empt the plot before the victim is in the jaws of the snake and has no chance to survive.

Does Operation Night and Fog look familiar?

Maybe unwholesome reputation but ... it worked. AND, it may be right for groups like these unholy tentheads who think it's cool to blow up places for some stone aged ideal. Anyway, you can not fight terrorism with human rights legislation. You fight it with ferocity and deadly force. Otherwise, the bad guys continue doing what they've been doing which is, playing the open system in the west, against itself.

And the west continues to appease, appease and more of the same, all in the name of multi-culture. Guess who'll win that kind of war?
20:38 December 15, 2010 by canadianaa
Canadian Intelligence recently revealed an extremely similar situation on Islamic Extremist groups in Canada. Unfortunately, here in Canada we are faced with a grim look on what the future potentially holds unless the government steps in to revise and update bills, laws and the Charter of Rights and Freedom. Good on you Germany!

21:32 December 15, 2010 by soros
Raids like this just put groups on notice. I doubt anything concrete will come of it.

The ideological/religious revival of radical Islam wont be over for two or more generations to come. By then Europe will be Islamacized and the Muslims will start fighting with each other. See the Middle East for the results of Euro Multi-kulti.(It's strange that no one ever discusses what the place will look like fifty years from now... )
22:04 December 15, 2010 by browndude
All of you bad mouthing Germany and America, shame on you! Why don't these fundamental Islamists go and start their radical schools in their own Islamic countries? If they want to start a Islamic school here, then it is only fair that they start allowing Christian schools, Hindu schools, Sikh schools....and on. Islamists protest other religious schools on their turf. They why should we? All they want to do is scare everyone and screw the women. Jerks!
23:42 December 15, 2010 by Prufrock2010
Jingoism is so badassed. The US has been fighting in Afghanistan for 10 years now, and losing for 10 years. Iraq is a disaster. Pakistan is the next disaster. So much for "ferocity and deadly force." America goes bankrupt and the enemy scares the bejezzuz out of everybody by shipping a few wired-up ink cartridges in a $50 printer. So who's winning this war, my jingoistic friends?

amen, browndude.
13:55 December 16, 2010 by LancashireLad
Before we all get excitied. lets see if any incriminating evidence was turned up during the raids. At the moment we have nothing more than the fact that the raids took place. Nobody has been charged yet. Let's just wait and see what comes out of it ... if anything.

Above comments removed due to censorship, because they reflect the views of the Majority, and that is not Politacally Correct, Comrade. Have to go to re-education gulag now.
12:07 December 17, 2010 by michael4096

You seem to be advocating that we do not pre-judge the situation and that we wait until we are better informed. That we don't let primeval fears overrule our sense of the rational. Maybe even that we let the police do their job without resorting to knee jerk inflamatory remarks that say much more about us than anything meaningful about the article or situation.

Honestly! Have you learned nothing from reading The Local comments all this time?
16:29 December 17, 2010 by Prufrock2010
@ The Local

You can censor to your heart's content, but that hardly the way to encourage a vibrant discussion. Frankly, I'm at a loss as to what I wrote that would be worthy of redaction. So I'll try to state it another way:

Those who purport to defend me as an American by espousing hatred, by advocating Nazi tactics, by denigrating entire populations as "less than human" and by advocating nuclear warfare DO NOT represent me and are anathema to the very principles of law that they purport to defend, not to mention common decency. They are the enemies of freedom, not its defenders.

Is the foregoing politically correct enough to survive your arbitrary censorship?
17:24 December 17, 2010 by JohnnesKönig
seems to be a hot topic!

For those of you that do not approve of what the German Govt is doing, either try and change it or go away.

I really see no reason why these people want to live in Germany... Live where you like the culture and way of life... Or stay home and transform it to your likings!
