Cops find huge weapons cache in Berlin flat
Police in Berlin said on Monday they had found a huge cache of nearly 80 guns and 15,000 rounds of ammunition after searching a flat in the city's Kreuzberg district.
The authorities told The Local they seized the illegal arsenal after entering an apartment on Skalitzer Straße around 9 am Sunday morning following an investigation into weapons offences.
The raid turned up a total of 54 handguns, 10 rifles, a Kalashnikov-style assault rifle with silencer, a pump-action shotgun, a sawed-off shotgun, a semi-automatic machine gun, nine one-shot "pen" guns, as well as five smoke grenades and assorted calibres of ammunition.
The 48-year old owner of the flat was arrested and was due to be taken before a judge on Monday as police continue their investigation.
