The 48-year-old walked the red carpet lined with squealing fans alongside co-star Cameron Diaz to promote the new action comedy, which opens in German cinemas on July 22.

But he took so much time signing autographs and mugging for photographs with his adorers that the time set aside for interviews with journalists almost ran out.

The delay caused one reporter to cry out desperately, “Tom, please, otherwise I’ll be fired!”

Cruise reportedly reacted promptly, turning to the reporter and saying, “Ok, get started, I promise that you won’t be fired.”

Even after organisers tried to end the question-and-answer session, the actor stayed to talk about a visit to a Munich Biergarten the night before and gush about his four-year-old daughter Suri. He said he wouldn’t rule out the possibility that the little girl would follow in his footsteps and those of his wife Kate Holmes, who is also an actor.

Story continues below…

Co-star Diaz, 37, also took time to greet the hundreds of fans who braved the sultry heat to see the stars. When reporters asked how she was handling the weather she offered an honest answer.

“I’m hot and sweaty,” she said.

All I can say is good on you Tom. He has spent time with his fans and also tending to the reporter.

According to the South Park TV show, Tom Cruise is a fudge packer. But as we can see here, he's actually a very nice guy willing to help out the media & his fans.

Give the guy a break, some people seem to be so hung up on the religion side of Tom Cruise that anything good he does is dismissed, he did a good thing which he didn't have to do.

@international watch, if you really do feel that strongly about celebrities, then why did you read this article?

Because you were curious, and whether you admit it or not you do find it interesting to read what the stars of the silver screen get up to like us mere mortals, even if it is just to complain about them for being no different to yourself.

I agree with moistvelvet. If your gonna get all pissy about something you read, don't read it! You just said, it's a waste of time, so why were you wasting yours??

Are you seriously suggesting that Scientology is a religion?

I agree with others who suspect this non-story to be a Scientology plant. They're working overtime to rehabilitate the marketability of their fruitloop poster boy.
