Car falls from bridge onto train tracks in deadly accident
A spectacular auto accident in Wiesbaden on Thursday night has led to the death of an 82-year-old woman, police in the German state of Hesse reported.
The woman’s 90-year-old husband lost control of their vehicle and careened over the side of a bridge, falling 10 metres onto train tracks below, a police report said. For unknown reasons, the man went straight when he should have turned left and broke through the bridge guard rail, hitting the tracks at a right angle and overturning.
While rescue workers were able to rescue the couple from the car, the woman died shortly afterwards of her injuries in a nearby hospital, police said.
Power supply lines for rail traffic were severed in the accident, forcing rail operators to reroute trains scheduled on the Koblenz-Wiesbaden line.
