More snow is likely to fall this weekend in Germany - even as freezing temperatures mean that accumulation from last week's storm continues to snarl traffic, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Thursday.

Light snow or freezing rain may fall in eastern Lower Saxony and eastern Bavaria in the afternoon on Thursday, while the rest of the country will be foggy and gloomy with temperatures below freezing, DWD meteorologist Peter Hartmann said in a statement.

Friday will continue to be foggy with mist in patches, though the sun may peek out from behind the clouds occasionally. Temperatures will range from between -6 and 1 degree Celsius. Overnight residents can expect heavy frost in higher altitudes where temperatures will reach as low as -11 degrees.

While Saturday will remain cloudy and cold, the snow probably won’t begin until after dark in eastern and western Germany, Hartmann reported.

Snow will continue into Sunday, spreading from the east and west to cover much of the country. Higher temperatures reaching up to 4 degrees could mean freezing rain in some locations, though.
