The attack took place around 5 am Sunday morning on the A49 motorway near Kassel. The assailants car was possibly a dark blue, late-model Ford, which pulled up to the victims’ vehicle and began firing.

The 22-year-old driver was shot in the shoulder and a 21-year-old passenger had a bullet in the hip. Both were taken to the hospital. Two other passengers were unharmed.

Police closed a portion the A49 for four hours to search for clues and retrieved three bullet cartridges from a 9 millimetre gun.

There was no apparent motive for the attack and no clues as yet to the assailants’ whereabouts. Police believe they drove on the autobahn towards Fulda but may have exited the motorway in Kassel.

The victims were unable to say how many assailants were in the mysterious Ford, though police said they believed at least two people were involved. They also cautioned citizens from approaching any vehicles matching the Ford’s description, warning that the assailants were armed and dangerous.
