Eighteen tonnes of eggs went over-easy on the autobahn in the eastern German state of Brandenburg after a truck overturned early Monday morning.

“There was egg muck all over the side of the road, on the shoulder, on the side and in the ditch,” Neuruppin police spokeswoman Manja Stultz told The Local.

Police said the driver came too close to road construction on A24 near Neuruppin, about one hour north of Berlin. When the driver tried to move his double-trailer into the other lane, the truck went down the embankment, where the eggs scrambled in the ditch.

“The cleanup crews had to pump out all the liquid egg parts for most of the morning,” said Stultz. “Most of it was cleaned up by late morning but the process will likely continue until tonight.”

The accident caused about €30,000 in damages, but the driver was not injured.
