The two-seaters will soon be available in 17 Chinese cities and a spokesperson from manufacturer Mercedes Benz' parent company Daimler AG said the company already had some 1,000 orders and 1.2 million people who had expressed interest in the vehicles online.

Meanwhile Daimler company head Dieter Zetsche presented the company’s new luxury models. China has become one of the most important markets for the S-class, so the company decided to debut the updated model, in addition to a hybrid version, in China.

March was the most successful month Daimler has yet had in China, with sales increasing by 50 percent to reach 5,000 vehicles sold, Zetsche said.
