The interest for a single-property village in Saxony placed on the internet auction website Ebay is growing fast, according to its seller Alexandra Schmidt.

The 14,000-square-metre piece of real estate named 'Liebon' near Bautzen in the eastern German state was recently put up on the website under the banner “Buy your own village! - famous from TV and radio.”

The property is a free-standing, four-sided courtyard with its own place-name signs, around 1.5 kilometres from the nearest neighbours. The official starting price is €300,000, but is subject to negotiation.

A small newspaper article on the ad sparked a large media frenzy during the past week, and Schmidt was overwhelmed with inquiries of interest. The 31-year-old told reporters said she was “extremely surprised” at the scale of the reaction. Offers have already been made, though no bidders have yet come to view the village.

Schmidt declined to give details either on the size or the number of the offers, but said, “It hurts to have to sell Liebon.”
