Police in Hamburg had to temporarily close down a main street and metro line on Tuesday morning after someone found the bloody corpse of a man thought to have plunged from a train overpass.

The victim – described as a black man with stab wounds – left traces of blood on the metro tracks and overpass guardrail. Police are assuming he was murdered, however, they are not sure if he died before falling to the street below.

“We can't yet say what the cause of death was,” said a police spokeswoman. “The forensics experts will have to clarify that.”

The gruesome crime scene temporarily closed down Sengelmannstraße to car traffic and the U1 metro line will remain suspended between the Lattenkamp and Ohlsdorf stations until further notice.
