Two men have been killed in separate hunting accidents over the weekend, with at least one having been mistaken for a wild boar, and shot by a fellow hunter.

Police in Baden-Württemberg reported that a 46-year-old hunter was spotted by a colleague in Mühlenbach in the Black Forest, and shot.

A detective said a group of around 50 hunters were systematically chasing boar through the woods when one saw another crouched down in anticipation, mistook him for prey shot him dead.

A second accident happened during a wild boar hunt in Einhausen, Hesse, where a 40-year-old man was shot and killed by his fellow hunter.

An investigation has been launched to try to discover how the man ended up in the line of fire.
