Police in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Thursday said they were shocked to find a drunk man still alive in a Stralsund garden with record-breaking breath alcohol level of 7.67 per mille.

Despite being ridiculously hammered, the 44-year-old on Wednesday night was still able to undergo a breath test that left officers completely baffled as to how he was not in a coma. “I haven’t seen anything like it in my 28 years with the force,” said a police spokesman.

The man, who is well known for his love of alcoholic beverages, was taken to a local hospital to sober up.

The police ruled out making a mistake, but said the alcohol concentration measured in breath test allows only limited conclusions about actual blood alcohol levels. However, even regular drinkers can die at levels of 5.5 per mille and higher.
